Moussa Mara is a Malian statesman, chartered accountant, author, and advocate for democracy and good governance. He is the former Prime Minister of the Republic of Mali and currently a Board Member of Club de Madrid, an organisation of former presidents and prime ministers, through which he contributes to international discussions on democracy, anti-corruption, accountable governance, and political leadership.
A partner in Mali’s largest accounting firm, which operates across approximately 20 countries, he advises governments, major corporations, and local authorities on financial management, auditing, institutional performance, and professional capacity-building. He also served for five years as Secretary General of the Order of Chartered Accountants. Beyond his professional career, he has been actively involved in civil society, charitable initiatives, and youth mentorship.
Mr. Mara began his political career as Mayor of Commune IV in Bamako and later served as a Member of Parliament and Minister of Urbanisation and Town Policy. In April 2014, he became the youngest Prime Minister in Mali’s history. He is the author of several works on Mali, public administration, and African youth, including For a Better Mali and The State in Mali: Presentation and Diagnosis. Through his public service, professional expertise, writing, and international engagement, Mara continues to promote institutional reform, responsible leadership, and greater political participation among young people.
