Charlie Campbell is TIME’s Editor-at-Large, based in Singapore. Since joining TIME in 2013, he has served as a correspondent and editor in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, London, and Singapore, reporting on major political, social, technological, and economic developments across Asia and beyond. His field reporting has covered some of the defining global events of recent years, including the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan, the refugee exodus following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Christchurch mosque attacks, and the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
A native of London, Campbell has written more than two dozen TIME cover stories on subjects ranging from quantum computing and global technology to an in-depth profile of the Dalai Lama. He has interviewed numerous heads of state and government, including ten national leaders in 2024, as well as some of Asia’s most influential business figures, such as Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, Foxconn CEO Terry Gou, and Uniqlo President Tadashi Yanai. Beyond journalism, Campbell is an experienced speaker and moderator who has participated in prominent international forums, including the World Economic Forum, APEC, the Milken Institute, BEYOND Expo, and the Bay of Bengal Conversation. His work combines on-the-ground reporting, high-level interviews, and global analysis to provide nuanced insights into the forces shaping Asia and the wider world.
