Kallol Bhattacherjee is a Tripura-born journalist, author, and Senior Assistant Editor at The Hindu in New Delhi, where he reports on India’s foreign affairs, South Asia, and major international conflicts. Over the course of his career, he has reported from Libya, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Israel-Palestine, covering diplomacy, war, political transitions, insurgency, and regional security. He previously worked with The Week magazine and the Iranian News Agency in New Delhi. His research interests include the diplomatic history of modern India, the country’s northeastern region, and India’s relations with major powers. His reporting has examined Nepal’s political transition and economic blockade, the Madhesi conflict, Islamic fundamentalism and the Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh, the 2024 uprising in Bangladesh, the Arab Spring in Tunisia, terrorism in Pakistan, and Al Qaeda and Taliban activity in northwest Pakistan. At The Hindu, his coverage also includes Myanmar, free trade agreements, Afghanistan, India-Pakistan relations, Ukraine, Sudan, and Syria.
Bhattacherjee is the author of Nehru’s First Recruits: The Diplomats Who Built Independent India’s Foreign Policy and A Singular Spy: The Untold Story of Coomar Narain, both published in 2024. His earlier books include The Great Game in Afghanistan: Rajiv Gandhi, General Zia and the Unending War and the e-book A Baloch Militant in Delhi. His forthcoming book, Once There Was a War in This Country: Story of Restless Times in Bangladesh, is scheduled for publication in 2026. He has spoken at the Jaipur Literature Festival, Kashmir Literature Festival, Dibrugarh University International Literature Festival, Bay of Bengal Conversation, Delhi University Literature Festival, and Delhi School of Economics Policy Conclave. He has also appeared on international television and podcast platforms, including RT, DW, and Al Jazeera.
