Abdulla Rasheed Ahmed served as Minister of State for Education of the Republic of Maldives from December 2018 to November 2023, contributing to national education policies and promoting equitable learning opportunities. He is an accomplished Maldivian educationist with more than 30 years of experience in teaching, school leadership, public administration, educational policy, and professional training. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Zikura International College in the Maldives, an External Advisor for the Master of Education programme at Asia e University, Malaysia, and an External Trainer for the Maldives Civil Service Training Institute. Before being the minister, he spent 18 years as a principal of government schools, where he strengthened institutional management, supported student achievement, and encouraged inclusive learning environments. He has also conducted numerous professional development programmes for teachers throughout the Maldives and has participated in international conferences as a speaker, panelist, and guest of honour. His principal areas of expertise include instructional leadership, educational governance, teacher development, institutional management, public-sector capacity building, and the integration of artificial intelligence into education and professional practice.
Dr. Rasheed holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership from Asia e University, a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of Nottingham, a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Human Resource Management from the University of Tasmania, and a Diploma in School Management from the National Institute of Education, Sri Lanka. His academic and professional achievements include the Academic Excellence Award from Binary University, placement on the Dean’s Roll of Excellence at the University of Tasmania, the Qasim Ibrahim Award of Excellence, and special recognition from the President of the Maldives in 2006. In 2010, the Maldives Ministry of Education named him Principal of the Year. Beyond education, he was recognised as the best story writer at the Maldives’ inaugural film festival and won the best orator title in a national debate competition organised by Public Service Media. His career reflects a lasting commitment to teaching, innovation, leadership, and lifelong learning.
