Dr. Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bangladesh. Born in 1972 in Torbat-e Jam, Khorasan, Iran, he holds a PhD in International Relations and has more than three decades of academic, parliamentary, legal, and foreign-policy experience.
Dr. Jahanabadi has been a faculty member in political science and international relations since 1990 and currently serves as a full-time professor at the Islamic Azad University, Tehran Central Branch. He has supervised, advised, and reviewed more than 80 master’s and doctoral theses. He also previously served as President of the Islamic Azad University’s Afghanistan branch.
He served two consecutive terms in Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, representing the 10th and 11th Parliaments. During his parliamentary tenure, he was a member of the Legal and Judicial Commission and later the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, including its Security and Foreign Relations committees. For eight years, he represented Iran in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) and headed parliamentary friendship groups with Vietnam, Tajikistan, Portugal, Denmark, and Uruguay.
His wider public service includes roles in presidential strategic and foreign-policy bodies, parliamentary oversight of defense industries, and leadership of the Border Residents’ and Sunni parliamentary factions. He is also a licensed first-level lawyer and has extensive experience in strategic studies, international affairs, and parliamentary diplomacy.
