Dr Julia Roknifard is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Law and Governance, Taylor’s University (Malaysia), where she teaches subjects on political science and international relations in the first Bachelor’s program in Malaysia on Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). Originally focused on international security and Middle East politics, she is also working on issues concerning ASEAN and political developments around it.
She holds a Ph.D. in History of International Relations from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow), a Specialist Degree in Jurisprudence from the National Research University “Higher School of Economics” (Moscow), and an MA in Muslim World Issues from the International Islamic University Malaysia (ISTAC, UIA, Kuala Lumpur). Throughout her career, she worked for academia, independent think tanks, NGOs, and international organizations like UNHCR. She has been a contributor to Al-Monitor, Bloomberg, Xinhua, SCMP, China Daily, Al Jazeera, TRT, Bernama, Astro Awani, Free Malaysia Today and many other media outlets where she publishes her opinion pieces and appears with commentaries on the issues of her expertise.
