Suvojit Bagchi is a senior journalist and South Asia analyst with more than three decades of field reporting experience across India and the wider region. He previously served as a Delhi Correspondent for the BBC World Service and Kolkata Bureau Chief for The Hindu. He currently works as India Correspondent for Prothom Alo, Bangladesh’s leading Bengali newspaper, and as Consulting Editor for ABP Online. His reporting focuses on internal security, political movements, regional geopolitics, militancy, religious majoritarianism, and political developments across northern, eastern, and central India. He has reported extensively on conflicts ranging from Kashmir to Left-wing insurgencies and closely follows India’s relations with neighbouring countries, particularly Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Bagchi’s recent work for Prothom Alo has focused on Afghanistan, based on a month of immersive travel that is being developed into a forthcoming travelogue. He has also travelled in parts of China and written on shared cultural symbols. A regular commentator on South Asian affairs, he has given speaking engagements including the Bay of Bengal Conversation in 2024, a 2025 conference in Kolkata on illegal immigration and diplomacy, and a 2026 panel hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata on the Communist Party of China’s role in shaping modern China.
