Humaiun Kobir is the State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In this role, he assists the Foreign Minister and oversees bilateral and multilateral affairs, matters concerning non-resident Bangladeshis, and other responsibilities assigned by the Minister.
Before joining the cabinet, Kobir served as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs with the rank of State Minister. He is also Joint Secretary General for International Affairs of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), a position he has held since October 2025. His political and policy work has focused extensively on international relations, strategic engagement and foreign policy.
Born in Habshpur village in Osmaninagar, Sylhet, Kobir moved to the United Kingdom with his family at an early age and pursued his higher education there. He earned a BA (Hons) in International Relations from the University of Sussex and completed postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Cambridge and Leeds Law School.
Kobir has substantial professional experience in the United Kingdom, including roles connected with the UK Government and 10 Downing Street, as well as positions in London local government.
