Dr. Sebastian Groh is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of SOLshare, a pioneering climate-tech company advancing decentralized renewable energy solutions and innovative peer-to-peer energy systems. With more than 15 years of experience in startups, energy access, and decentralized electrification, he has played a leading role in developing scalable solutions for energy poverty and sustainable development, particularly in Bangladesh and across the Global South. He is also a Professor at BRAC Business School, BRAC University. A 2013 Stanford Ignite Fellow, Dr. Groh holds a Ph.D. from Aalborg University and the Postgraduate School Micro Energy Systems at TU Berlin, where his doctoral research examined the role of energy in development, energy poverty, and technological innovation, with a special focus on Bangladesh. He began his career at MicroEnergy International in Berlin and has published a book and multiple journal articles on decentralized electrification.
Since co-founding SOLshare in 2014, Dr. Groh has received significant international recognition for his work. SOLshare was named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer in 2018, received the Siemens Stiftung Empowering People Network Award in 2019, became a finalist for the inaugural Earthshot Prize in 2021, and won the Zayed Sustainability Prize in 2022. Dr. Groh became an Ashoka Fellow in 2018 and a UBS Global Visionary in 2019, and in 2021 joined the Board of the Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry as Vice President. He is also a frequent speaker at major international forums, including COP30, the Copenhagen UN SDG & Climate Conference, Shanghai Climate Week 2026, the Philanthropy Asia Summit 2026, BIDA Summit 2025, Green Innovation Fest 2025, and the Cleantech Forum 2025.
