Dr Karori Singh has forty-five years of research and teaching experience in South Asian Studies. His initial research work was on Agricultural Land Reforms in Sri Lanka. It was expanded to a comparative perspective on agricultural land reforms in South Asia during postdoctoral research under the Development Policy Programme of the Resource Systems Institute, East-West Center, Hawaii. Thereafter, he continued his research and teaching on grassroots issues, inter-state migration, and development policy to gain a greater understanding of the dynamics of conflict and cooperation at the South Asia Studies Centre, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, India.
He has also completed a State-of-the-Art Review of Literature on Poverty and Human Rights in South Asia under the poverty eradication programme of UNESCO. During his research, learning, and experience, he has developed a strong conviction that we have an inadequate understanding of the poverty situation and, thus, inappropriate policies/strategies for poverty eradication. Moreover, he has administrative experience as Director, South Asia Studies Centre, and member of various decision-making bodies regarding higher education, including member of international research committees of the RCSS, Colombo. His international experience, professional affiliations, and editorial leadership, including serving as Chief Editor of South Asian Studies, have deepened his understanding of South Asian societies and their challenges.
