Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari assumed his responsibilities as Ambassador of Nepal to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on 31 July 2022.
Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, Mr. Bhandari served as Joint Secretary and Head of the Regional Organization Division at Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs from July 2021 to July 2022. From September 2019 to July 2021, he was Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York. Earlier, he served as Joint Secretary and Head of the Europe and America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from June 2017 to September 2019.
From September 2015 to May 2017, Mr. Bhandari served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Mission/Embassy of Nepal to the European Union and the BENELUX countries in Brussels, including as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. from April to November 2016. Before that, he was Under Secretary at the United Nations, International Organizations and International Law Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from May 2014 to September 2015.
His earlier diplomatic assignments include serving as Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva from November 2012 to April 2014. From August 2010 to October 2012, he worked as a Section Officer in the United Nations, International Organizations and International Law Division of the Ministry.
Before joining Nepal’s Foreign Service, Mr. Bhandari was a lecturer at the Central Department of English, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, where he taught at the master’s level from February 2006 to July 2010.
Mr. Bhandari holds a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in English Studies and a master’s degree in Political Science, both from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He was born on 25 September in Gulmi, Nepal. He is married to Ms. Lalita Silwal, and they have two children.
