Dr. Felix Gerdes studied Political Science and Sociology in Hamburg and Dakar, Senegal, completing his studies with a long-term field research project on refugee settlements in Guinea. He subsequently obtained his doctorate from the University of Hamburg, where he continued to work on a research project before moving to Cambodia to take up an assignment at Zaman University (now Paragon International University).
His academic and professional work has focused particularly on questions of peace and political economy, on which he has also published extensively. In 2015, he moved to the interface between development practice and academia, taking up an advisory position at the University of Liberia.
Felix joined the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in 2021, initially heading its office in Ivory Coast before transferring to Bangladesh in 2024.
