Anurag Acharya is a Nepal-based policy researcher, political commentator, and former journalist with over fifteen years of professional experience spanning research, media, governance programming, and policy engagement. He currently serves as Director of Practice at Policy Entrepreneurs Inc. (PEI), a Kathmandu-based think tank, where he leads research and programming on governance, politics, foreign aid, and geopolitical issues affecting Nepal and South Asia.
Over the course of his career, Acharya has worked with a range of national and international organizations on initiatives related to governance reform, sub-national politics, peacebuilding, and public policy. His work bridges academic inquiry and practical policy engagement, focusing on the evolving dynamics of state institutions, democratic governance, and regional geopolitics in South Asia. He is particularly interested in understanding Nepal’s domestic political transformations within broader regional and global contexts. Prior to his work in the policy sector, Acharya began his career in journalism, developing a reputation for incisive political reportage and informed commentary on Nepal’s contemporary affairs. He continues to write extensively for both national and international publications, contributing articles, policy briefs, and analytical essays on governance, foreign policy, regional cooperation, and political developments in South Asia. His commentaries are recognized for their nuanced perspectives and ability to connect local realities with larger geopolitical trends. Acharya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies from Kathmandu University and a Master’s degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), India.
