Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry is a distinguished Pakistani diplomat with more than 37 years of service in the Foreign Service of Pakistan. He served as Foreign Secretary from December 2013 to March 2017, playing an active role in high-level foreign policy deliberations. His final diplomatic assignment was as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, where he engaged with members of Congress, addressed leading universities and think tanks, and strengthened outreach to the Pakistani diaspora. Earlier, he served as Ambassador to the Netherlands, Foreign Office Spokesman, Additional Foreign Secretary for UN and Disarmament Affairs, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, and Chef de Cabinet to the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization. He also served as Director General for South Asia and contributed closely to the Pakistan–India peace process, alongside diplomatic assignments in Washington, Doha, and Cairo.
Following his retirement, Ambassador Chaudhry served as Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad from 2018 to 2022. Under his leadership, the institute organised more than 650 conferences, roundtables, and webinars, published four edited volumes, over 400 policy briefs, and 85 peer-reviewed articles, while building partnerships with 43 think tanks worldwide. He is the author of Pakistan Mirrored to Dutch Eyes, the memoir Diplomatic Footprints, and Pakistan–India Relations: Fractured Past, Uncertain Future, published in 2025. He regularly writes for *Dawn* and other newspapers and lectures on regional and global geopolitics, foreign policy, and security. Ambassador Chaudhry holds a master’s degree in International Relations from Tufts University and a First Class First Bachelor of Science degree from Punjab University.
