Jahrat Adib Chowdhury is a Member of Parliament, legal practitioner, and strategic policymaker working at the intersection of international relations, legislative reform, and institutional governance. She serves as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she leads legislative oversight on foreign policy, economic diplomacy, and bilateral relations.
A Barrister-at-Law, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Harvard Business School alumna, Jahrat spent over 23 years in senior leadership roles across telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and legal and policy sectors prior to her parliamentary service. Notably, she made history as the first female Deputy CEO in the telecom industry, at Banglalink, where she managed enterprise strategy, regulatory affairs, and market expansion. She currently maintains her practice as Senior Partner at the boutique advisory firm Chowdhury & Hyder, advising enterprises on strategic growth and corporate governance.
In her legislative and policy work, Jahrat focuses on building resilient economic frameworks, modernising investment policy to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), and strengthening cross-border trade connectivity. Her expertise directly aligns with key global governance challenges, balancing economic openness with strong institutional accountability and public trust. Through her parliamentary standing committee leadership, she works to align national policy with evolving geopolitical dynamics, regional economic integration, and institutional resilience.
Jahrat holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of London, a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Inns of Court School of Law, an LL.M with Distinction from the University of Derby, an Advanced Certificate with Distinction from IBA Dhaka/AMDISA, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales at Lincoln’s Inn, alongside executive education at Harvard Business School. As a frequent speaker at global forums, she offers strategic insights into parliamentary oversight, economic diplomacy, and the political economy of emerging markets in the Indo-Pacific.
