Krzysztof M. Zalewski, Ph.D., is President of the Michał Boym Institute for Asian and Global Studies in Warsaw, an independent think tank supporting business and political leaders in navigating the opportunities, risks, and strategic transformations shaping Asia and the Global South. A key part of the Institute’s mission is “reverse diplomacy”: presenting South Asian perspectives to Polish and European policymakers and integrating them into European policy debates. He also co-founded the Jan Zamoyski Polish Statecraft Institute, which promotes strategic thinking, stronger public institutions, and informed discussion on Poland’s long-term development and global role.
Dr. Zalewski is a recognized expert in international relations, specializing in the evolving relationship between Europe and Asia. His work focuses on international trade, economic security, defence cooperation, emerging technologies, and space policy. A central area of his research is the expansion of political, economic, and strategic ties between Poland, the European Union, and South Asia. He examines how Poland and other Central European countries can strengthen their presence in the Indo-Pacific, diversify economic partnerships, develop resilient supply chains, and contribute more effectively to Europe’s engagement with the Global South. His broader expertise includes Poland–United States relations, transatlantic security, the future of European defence, and Poland’s role within the European Union.
Dr. Zalewski is a prominent commentator in Polish and international media, contributing to debates on geopolitics, global trade, economic trends, strategic competition, and the changing international order. He regularly participates in international conferences, policy dialogues, and expert discussions involving government, business, academia, and civil society. His professional experience includes positions at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights from 2014 to 2016, the Chancellery of the President of Poland from 2010 to 2014, the Chancellery of the Polish Sejm from 2009 to 2010, and the Centre for Eastern Studies in 2009. He is also an alumnus of the Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance and the German Marshall Fund’s Marshall Memorial Fellowship.
