H.E. Dr. Rüdiger Lotz has served as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh since July 2025. A career diplomat with more than three decades of international experience, he previously served as Consul General in Karachi, Pakistan, from 2022 to 2025, and as Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the Economics and Global Issues Department at the German Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa.
Throughout his diplomatic career, Dr. Lotz has held senior positions in Ankara, Bogotá, Vienna, Pristina, Kabul, Belgrade, Lima, and at the German Federal Foreign Office. His assignments have covered political affairs, economic diplomacy, migration and refugees, conflict and security, and regional relations. He has also served as Head of the Iraq Unit and Head of the Division for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean at the Federal Foreign Office.
Dr. Lotz holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University and a doctorate in law from Freie Universität Berlin. He studied law in Berlin, Lausanne, and León and speaks English, French, Spanish, and Serbian.
