Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet has served as the Ambassador of France to Bangladesh since 2025. A career diplomat with extensive experience in bilateral and multilateral affairs, he has held senior diplomatic positions across Europe and Asia and has worked extensively on United Nations, European Union, cultural diplomacy, and human rights issues.
Born in Versailles, France, in 1969, Ambassador Séré-Charlet graduated from ESSEC in Paris with a background in Political Science and is an alumnus of the École Nationale d’Administration (ENA).
He began his diplomatic career in 1998 as a Desk Officer at the United Nations Department of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2002 to 2005, he served as Counsellor at the Embassy of France in Russia, followed by an assignment at the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union in Brussels from 2005 to 2007. He subsequently served as Diplomatic Advisor to the French Minister of Culture and Communication from 2007 to 2009 and as Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy of France in Italy from 2009 to 2012.
From 2013 to 2015, he served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of France in India. He later returned to Paris, where he was Deputy Director at the United Nations and Department of Human Rights of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2021. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Bangladesh, he served as Consul General of France in Mumbai from 2021 to 2025.
Ambassador Séré-Charlet speaks English, Italian, and Russian. His personal interests include history, architecture, theatre, and rugby.
