Dr Uche Igwe is currently a visiting fellow at the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the International Centre for Policing and Security at the University of South Wales. He has extensive expertise in democracy, geopolitics and the blue economy. He serves as the National Expert on the Blue Economy on the West Africa Sustainable Oceans Project (WASOP), supported by the European Union.
He is a political economy analyst, legislative scholar, governance and policy expert with twenty years of practical experience working with the parliament, government agencies, local and international non-governmental organisations, the media, research think tanks and the private sector.
He holds a PhD in Politics from the Sussex Centre for the Study of Corruption, University of Sussex, and a Master of Arts in Governance and Development from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), also in Sussex. He is a regular commentator on contemporary issues of politics and governance on the continent, including democracy, corruption, cyber security, conflict and insecurity, terrorist financing, blue economy, social protection, Chinese engagement in Africa and cybercrime, among others.
Dr Igwe was a former Africa Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars in Washington, DC. He has held senior advisory positions at the World Bank, Open Government Partnership (OGP) and Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) offices back in Nigeria.
