Mrs. Mariyam Nasir is a distinguished Maldivian education leader with more than three decades of experience spanning classroom teaching, school administration, human resource management, and national education policy. Since November 2019, she has served as Director General of the Quality Assurance Department at the Ministry of Education, where she has led major reforms to strengthen school monitoring, institutional accountability, and educational standards across the Maldives. Over the past five years, she has helped modernise the national quality assurance system by promoting more holistic, evidence-based approaches to evaluating school performance and supporting continuous institutional improvement. Her career began as a primary teacher and progressed through supervisory and principal roles, giving her extensive first-hand understanding of teaching, school leadership, and student development. She later joined the Ministry of Education as an Education Officer in the Human Resource Management Division, where she contributed to workforce planning, professional development, and the alignment of personnel systems with the evolving needs of Maldivian schools.
Mrs. Mariyam’s professional journey is supported by a strong academic background in education, leadership, and management. She holds a Master of Education from Open University Malaysia, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from MI College, a Graduate Diploma in Management from Avid College, and an Advanced Diploma in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Professional Development from the University of Minho, Portugal. She also completed a Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language at the National Institute of Education, Sri Lanka, and a Primary Teaching Course at the Institute of Teacher Education, Maldives. Recognised for her dedication, discipline, and reform-oriented leadership, she is widely regarded as a bridge between classroom realities and national policy priorities. Through her current role, she continues to advance quality, accountability, and sustainable improvement throughout the Maldivian education system, while keeping reforms responsive to local contexts and globally competitive standards.
